The Armenian Diaspora of Perm

The Armenian Diaspora of Perm (the official name is the Local public organization "Armeniancultural center of Perm and Perm region") was founded on September 19, 2000. VagarshakBorisovitch Sarksyanhas been electedas its chairman.

The Diaspora’s main goals and tasks are to preserve and develop the national culturalidentity, spiritual values and thehistorical memoryof the Armenians living on the territory of theKama region.
The key focus areas of the "Armenian cultural center" are the following:

1) Armenian Sunday School:

  • To teach the Armenian language and history to children, inspire spiritual growth,promote the national cultural heritage of the Armenian people;
     
  • To cooperate with the teachers of Perm schools in which Armenian children study;
  • To take part in international festivals;
  • To take part in the events organized by the Ministry of Diaspora of the Republic ofArmenia;
  • Folk song and dance company;
  • School puppet theatre.

2)Publishing the cultural and educational newspaper "Noev Kovtcheg Prikamiya" (Noah's Ark of the Kama region). It contains information and analysis articles on the main news and events in Armenia, Russia and other countries.

3) Organization of various cultural events dedicated to the national public holidays and traditions:

  • Events, dedicated to the Victory in the Second World War, Easter, Trinity Sunday and New Year;
  • Jubilee celebrations of the 1700th anniversary of the adoption of Christianity as the national religion of Armenia, the 100th anniversary of the great Armenian composer Aram Khachaturyan, in whose honor there is a memorial plaque on the wall of the "Tsentralnaya" hotel in Sibirskaya street;
  • Pan-Armenian (sport) games.

4) Construction of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Perm.

5) Working with young people. Armenian youth center was founded with the aim to preserve the language and cultural traditions as well as to help Armenian Sunday School in organization and holding various festive and leisure events. The members of the youth center meet and take part in concerts and celebrations; arrange cultural and educational meetings, seminars, Young talents exhibitions, round tables with the participants from the other youth centers of Perm.

6) Providing a range of services to the Armenians of Perm and Perm region: medical assistance, legal advice, education services.

7) Cooperation with the local government bodies of Chyormoz regarding its landscape renovation and participation in the Festival of historical settlements of the Kama Region. The town of Chyormoz has historic significance to the Armenians of the Kama region: the famous Lazarevs (Lazarians), an Armenian noble family, were among the founders of this town. The family forefather Lazar Nazarovich moved to Russia in 1747.

8) Cooperation with other national communities: holding joint cultural and social events between various national communities of Perm, taking part in social forums and interethnic conferences on ethnic problems and national questions.

On January 26, 2011 the Armenian Diaspora celebrated its 10th anniversary. The festive event dedicated to that significant date was attended by the Governor of Perm region, high-ranking officials from Armenia, and the Church representatives. The Armenian Diaspora of Perm was awarded with honorary certificates and letters of appreciation. The Chairman of the community Vagarshak Sarksyan received a gold medal of the Ministry of Diaspora.
