Guidelines for Laying Paving Tiles

The basis for quality installation of any paving tiles is a carefully prepared sub base. In most cases, the sub base is a gravel and sand bedding layer. For difficult conditions, choose a concrete sub base. In any event, the site must be well planned, with strictly sustained levels and falls for drainage.

  1. Generally, during the process of laying tiles, as in any other situation, we should not forget about little things. The first step is to select tiles which you like most! Check the completeness of delivery. If everything is ok, then you can start the installation process.
  2. In most cases, the sub base is a gravel and sand bedding layer (12-15 cm gravel, 3-5 cm sand). The sand-cement mixture containing 100-150 kg of cement per cubic meter of sand is recommended for surfaces which will be supporting heavy objects.
  3. Each layer of the gravel and sand or sand bedding layer should be carefully leveled and compacted by a ramming machine. And please remember - the sand must be free of clay.
  4. Level the sub base by means of special rods.
  5. The process has begun! The tiles should be placed not in the loose sand, but in the well compacted bedding layer with the help of rubber hammers. Leave 1-2 mm gaps and fill them with dry sand.
  6. The tiles have been laid! Now let’s go to the final stage – level the surface with a plate compactor with a rubber “sole”. The result is very good: the surface is completely flat; each tile is “fused” with the sub base. The water is not accumulated on the surface; vice versa - it immediately goes into the sand and gravel bedding layer, staying dry and beautiful! This installation technology gives your paving strength and durability.
